Overview
Turning Point Church World Outreach Center was founded in 1996 by Pastors Mike and Cyndi Villamor and a small group of families, including our current Senior Pastor Jeff Barnes and his wife Kim, from around the Northwest - 15 adults and 10 children in all. Since that time TPC has grown steadily from a small group, to a community church, and now to a World Outreach Center with churches in two states and three countries. Turning Point is a diverse congregation representing people from a variety of backgrounds, nations, races and ages.Turning Point is known for its spirit of worship, powerful prophetic preaching, great generosity, apostolic leadership, and warm Christian love.
Small Beginnings
We began meeting in 1996 at Marshall Elementary School and grew quickly as people began embracing the mission to effect global impact, beginning with the Puget Sound Region by reaching out to the unsaved and nurturing them into fully devoted followers of Christ. Miraculous healings and testimonies of restored marriages and renewed joy flowed out of our new vibrant congregation.
Our First Home (In a Bingo Hall!)
In 1999 our church was busting at the seams at Marshall Elementary. With $60.00 in our building fund, God opened the door to purchase the Fire Fighters Bingo Hall building at 1410 8th Street. The Church prayed, rallied together and miraculously came up with the $60,000 down in the span of weeks. We were the proud owners of our first church building.
And growth continues...
We've purchased five additional properties around the church since, the Turning Point Childcare Center, Turning Point Preschool, Turning Point Home School Coop, and Pacific Northwest Bible College (PNBC). Pacific Northwest Bible College has equipped hundreds of students and sent out many graduates to church plant and to missions work. Our church family continued to grow and eventually we moved our Sunday services to the much larger Totem Middle School facility.
Meeting Needs in Our Community... In 1997 we began an event called Church in the Park (at Comford Park) with the goal of giving out 50 sets of school supplies to needy children in the area. The event has grown dramatically each year. In 2006 we changed the name to Summer Jubilee and invited other area churches to participate, three years later Summer Jubilee 2009 was held at the Tulalip Amphitheatre and was hosted by 15 area churches. Ten thousand people attended the event and 5000 sets of free school supplies were handed out. We also gave away 9000 free hotdogs, 500 free haircuts, free music and entertainment-it was a fantastic event. Community leaders, such as Mayor Kendall, Superintendent of Marysville Schools Dr. Nyland, City Council members, a representative from the Governor’s office, the Assistant State Superintendent and many other honored guests came out to lend their support. It's been quite a journey from Church in the Park to now!
Name Change: Turning Point Church World Outreach Center
In 2007 the Holy Spirit directed us to change our name from Turning Point Community Church to Turning Point Church World Outreach Center. An Apostolic burden was placed upon us to plant churches not only in our area but oversees. Turning Point Church in Surigao Philippines and Turning Point Church Burnaby Canada launched in 2006. In 2008 Turning Point Church Skagit County was launched, as well as, Turning Point Church Lebanon in Oregon. On Easter last year our churches together saw nearly 1800 people attend. A heart for all to know Jesus permeates our church culture.
